Or a glimpse into it…
Our sweet Craftsman home, built in 1914 has fewer rooms than appears from the outside. Our ceilings are high and some of the rooms are quite spacious. There’s also limited closet and storage space, at that time every closet and/or bathroom was considered and extra room and was taxed as such.
The original owners stand outside their new home. The screened porch
Is to their left – your right. It is now enclosed
When first built, it had a side porch with a western view. Above that porch was a sleeping porch adjacent to the Master bedroom.
At one point, a previous owner enclosed both rooms replacing the screens with windows. Making these rooms usable throughout the year.
The downstairs porch retains its shingle walls whereas the sleeping porches’ walls were covered.
Our porch, or as we call it –the green room- has over the years had many uses. It was the room we gathered in while renovating the remainder of the house, calling it the TV room.
Then, for a short time it was my son’s room while he was in college.
But, when he moved out, I developed a plan for this to be a place of my own and an optional guest room. I moved most of my girly things out of my husband’s office, added a few new things and placed them within this room.
I did it so quickly my son felt it was my plan all along.
When we moved here the room had a wet bar – took up too much space. So we dismantled the lower portion and kept the shelving above.
The wood color just didn’t seem to fit the feel I was looking for.

So I painted it white!
But, I didn’t stop there!
I painted a free-form pattern of
Blue flowers on the back walls.
Close-up of flowers
I then filled the shelves back with books and décor.
A little bit different
Well, paint does some wonderful things!

ReplyDeleteInteresting house and nice that you have the old photo!
ReplyDeleteWhat a difference the white paint makes and the dainty blue flowers just suit it perfectly.
ReplyDeleteIt is pretty cool that I have some early pictures of this house. In my little town families have been here for generations. One of the granddaughters of a former owner gave me the pictures - I treasure them.
ReplyDeleteThanks to all who stop by
God Bless,
Kathy
Hi Kathy, I love your space on the porch so pretty! Are your shingles original? Its hard to tell from the picture if the original outside was brick or shingles. They are so nice and full of texture. Detail is so important to me, I'm a detail person. Your shelf is wonderful in white.
ReplyDeleteHave a fun weekend.
